Full arch restoration: immediate implants and immediate loading with Robert Haas

EAO expert clinician course

Learning objectives

This two-day course on “Immediate Implants and Immediate Loading: The Vienna Concept” provides a comprehensive overview of immediate implantation from both surgical and prosthetic perspectives. Participants will engage in live surgery demonstrations and hands-on training, exploring digital planning techniques, digital impressions, photogrammetry, and facial scanning. The course will also cover the transition from provisional to final bridge restorations using CAD/CAM technology.

What do we know about socket healing and immediate implants?

Indications for flapless immediate implants

Number and position of implants in cross-arch-treatment

Multiple choice examination

Requirements for FP1 restorations

Strategies when immediate implantation is not feasible

Error prevention in immediate implantation

When do we have to raise a flap?

Full digital vs conventional approaches

Live surgeries (full-arch-cases)

Hands-on implantation on models identical to the live surgeries (you can choose the preferred implant system)

Key considerations for provisional bridges

Modular Bridgework Architecture

Phonetic aspects

Biomechanical considerations for prosthetic

Day 1

Surgical concepts and hands-on training

09:00–09:30

Registration and welcome

Participants arrive and register for the course, followed by a welcome introduction by the Academy of Oral Implantology team.

09:30–10:00

Socket healing and immediate implants

A detailed lecture on the biological aspects of socket healing, including the evidence base for immediate implantation. Participants will explore the latest research, including indications for flapless immediate implants and criteria for success. Key questions discussed will include: What is the ideal implant position? Should the gap be filled or not? What is the importance of the buccal bone plate? The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

10:00–12:00

Live surgery demonstration: Full-arch case

Observe a live surgery conducted by experienced clinicians, focusing on the placement of implants in a full-arch restoration scenario. Key points covered will include implant positioning, quantity, error prevention, and indications for raising a flap. Participants can choose their preferred implant system during registration. The most commonly selected system will be used in the live surgery, while others will be pre-recorded and shown. Available implant systems include: Megagen, Nobel, Straumann, Camlog, Zimmer Biomed. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

12:00–12:45

Lunch break

12:45–14:15

Hands-on training: Implant placement on models

Participants will practice implant placement on models replicating 3D prints of the patient’s live surgery cases. Participants can also use their preferred implant system during this hands-on session. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

14:15–14:30

Coffee break

14:30–16:00

Full-arch treatment: Digital vs. conventional approaches

A comprehensive comparison of fully digital workflows versus conventional methods. Participants will learn about digital planning techniques, including photogrammetry, digital impressions, and facial scanning. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

16:30–17:30

Q&A and wrap-up for Day 1

An open discussion and Q&A session to clarify topics covered throughout the day. The discussion will be supported by artificial intelligence, conducting literature research to provide additional insights.

Evening event:

Traditional Viennese Heurigen

Day 2

Prosthetic solutions and digital workflows

09:00–10:30

Provisional to final restoration: CAD/CAM technology

An overview of the transition from provisional bridges to final restorations using CAD/CAM technology. Discussions will cover the requirements for FP1 restorations and key considerations for provisional bridges. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

10:30–11:00

Coffee break

11:00–12:30

Modular bridgework architecture and phonetic aspects

A focused lecture on modular bridgework architecture, biomechanical considerations for prosthetics, and phonetic aspects to ensure optimal function and patient satisfaction. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

12:30–13:30

Lunch break

13:30–15:00

Live surgery: Immediate loading protocol

A second live surgery session focusing on the immediate loading protocol. Key techniques and strategies will be demonstrated, including when immediate loading is appropriate and how to manage challenges. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

15:00–15:30

Coffee break

15:30–16:30

Hands-on: Prosthetic components and bridgework on models

Participants will work hands-on with prosthetic components and practice assembling bridgework, simulating real-world scenarios of transitioning from provisional to final restorations. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

16:30–17:00

Strategies for challenging cases and error prevention

Discussion on strategies for situations where immediate implantation is not feasible and how to prevent errors in these complex cases. The session will conclude with an opportunity for discussion and questions.

17:00–17:30

Final Q&A and closing remarks

Concluding session with final questions, take-home messages, and closing remarks from the Academy of Oral Implantology team. The discussion will be supported by artificial intelligence, conducting literature research to provide additional insights.
