Held every three years, the EAO Consensus conference convenes leading experts in implant dentistry to address critical topics. Through a rigorous pre-conference literature review and collaborative discussions, the conference aims to establish consensus on best practices and future research directions. This ongoing effort has significantly shaped the field since 2006, fostering continuous improvement in patient care and implant success.
New global consensus
The Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines (GCCG) represents an innovative, evidence based approach to consensus-building in implant dentistry. It’s goal is to create straightforward, practical clinical workflows that enhance clinical outcomes for the benefit of the patient worldwide.
The first GCCG focuses on the rehabilitation of the edentulous maxilla, a condition that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life.

What is the Consensus conference?
A unique assembly where seasoned experts gather to scrutinise a range of subjects after an extensive literature review. The goal is to achieve a unanimous agreement on research evidence and best practices, guiding dental professionals towards optimal patient care.
Why Consensus conferences?
In a field as dynamic as dentistry, staying aligned with the most effective and safe procedures is paramount. Despite the robustness of evidence-based research, gaps often exist due to emerging techniques or limited studies. The EAO’s Consensus conferences aim to bridge these gaps, offering clear, consensus-driven guidance to the dental community at large.

The finalised review papers and consensus reports are published in the Clinical Oral Implants Research Journal, making them accessible to the broader scientific and dental communities.
EAO’s commitment to dissemination
While the conferences are invitation-only, the EAO is dedicated to sharing the outcomes widely. The consensus reached is disseminated through the Clinical Oral Implants Research journal and presented at the EAO’s annual scientific meetings, ensuring that the knowledge benefits the entire field of implant dentistry.
